12 Twelve Mile Hotel Ruins & Stone Pitching
The Twelve Mile, located approximately 20 kilometers south of Ilfracombe along the Ilfracombe–Isisford Road, offers a fascinating glimpse into Queensland’s pioneering past.
This historic site was once a vital watering stop and a Cobb & Co coach change station, serving travelers and livestock traversing the outback. From 1893 to around 1916, it was also home to the Royal Mail Hotel, a bustling hub that catered to the needs of weary travelers and locals alike.
Today, visitors can explore the remnants of this bygone era, including the impressive stone-pitched overshot—a testament to 19th-century craftsmanship. Constructed in the 1890s, this structure features thousands of meticulously placed flagstones forming a leak-proof reservoir designed to retain precious water in the arid landscape.

Romani Hall

Unveiled in September 2021, the 1.9-meter-tall statue was crafted by Jericho-based artist Milynda Rogers using scrap metal, including tools from Scott’s grandfather. Commissioned by the Ilfracombe District Progress Association, the sculpture serves as a source of inspiration and pride for the community, honoring Scott’s achievements and connection to the town.
